April 2015, Tianjin Grand Union Automobile Trade & Service Co., Ltd. (“Grand Union Automobile”) unveiled the two Range Rover models imported from Belgium at Yangshan Port. This marks the beginning of legal selling of parallel imported automobiles after Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce announced its list of first 17 approved parallel imported automobile dealers in March. 

As an important subsidiary of CGE’s Commercial Trading Segment based in Tianjin Port, Grand Union Automobile is an importer and dealer of automobiles that are not Chinese regulations compliant. The company established stable automobile procurement channels in US, Europe and Japan, and formed a nationwide marketing network covering key domestic markets such as Dalian, Tianjin, Inner Mongolia, Yunnan, Chengdu, Zhengzhou, Xi’an, Changsha, Xiamen, Quanzhou, Ningbo, Shanghai and Suzhou, etc. 

CCC Certification for legal status

The two Range Rover models arrived at Yangshan Port are part of a batch of automobiles shipped from a premium overseas parallel trader in the beginning of the year. After these automobiles leave the factory, the company will obtain an Automatic Import License from the Ministry of Commerce. Also, application for a CCC Mark is initiated before the importation to ensure the legal status of imported cars.

Well-established system and reliable post-sale service

Grand Union Automobile purchases commercial insurance for all imported cars it purchased or commissioned. It leveraged the insurers’ network of assessing and repairing facilities nationwide and became the first in the industry to solve the quality warranty and post-sale service issues for its imported automobiles not compliant with Chinese regulations. The practice was launched almost a year before the nation’s Regulations on Motor Vehicle Warranty became effective. By the end of 2014, Grand Union Automobiles established a comprehensive post-sale service network that covers most major cities nationwide. It now owns 62 repair and maintenance service centers nationwide and plans to expand it to 100 centers by the end of 2015.

To build a comprehensive aftermarket service system for its customers, Grand Union Automobile is building a supply chain of auto parts. Large customer service network and comprehensive auto parts management system will effectively address consumer concerns about parallel import cars.
